Deviations and Crisis Management

Q. Is it okay for the mock recall to be completed by the packer on behalf of the producers supplying him/her? Or does it have to be done by each individual producer?

A. Each individual producer is expected to conduct their own mock recall to achieve certification. To become certified, packers are required to accept product from CanadaGAP certified producers or get a letter of assurance from non-certified producers. Packers are to conduct a mock recall for their own food safety program to become certified. The auditor would be checking the packer’s certificates and/or letters of assurance from producers and the packer’s mock recall documents.
