The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has asked CanadaGAP to share important information regarding the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) with program participants. New SFCR requirements come into force on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

The SFCR replace 14 sets of existing regulations and apply to businesses that prepare food for export or to be sent across provincial or territorial boundaries. The regulations apply equally to imported food.

CanadaGAP has posted various resources on the SFCR on its website to help CanadaGAP-certified companies familiarize themselves with the regulations and related material. To access them, including the CFIA document on SFCR, visit the Food Safety Links webpage at https://www.canadagap.ca/audit-checklist/food-safety-links/, and click on the second tab labelled ‘Canadian government resources’.

A Powerpoint presentation on how CanadaGAP requirements line up with SFCR requirements can also be viewed at https://www.canadagap.ca/publications/presentations/
