CanadaGAP wishes to advise program participants and other stakeholders that we have updated the document on our website that provides background on the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and specifically on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP).

Canadian companies who are exporting to the U.S. are strongly encouraged to read the updated document, available here: www.canadagap.ca/wp-content/uploads/English/Tools/Food-Safety-Links/CanadaGAP-backgrounder-on-FSVP-compliance-March-2018-update.pdf.

IMPORTANT:

We also request that you let us know at the CanadaGAP office if you are receiving communications or requests from your U.S. customers about FSMA or FSVP compliance, your company’s compliance standing with CFIA or your registration/license number. We don’t need to know all of the particulars, but it would be very helpful for us to summarize the current pressures that Canadian suppliers are facing from their customers in the U.S.

We plan to aggregate this information (i.e., no identifying details about your company) and share it with CFIA and FDA to help inform officials about existing market demands. Having this information could positively influence government decisions on the timeline for FSVP enforcement, potentially extending the grace period for compliance.

Please send an email to info@canadagap.ca or call our office at 613-829-4711 to share information about U.S. customer expectations or with any questions you may have.
