It has been reported that absenteeism may continue to be a challenge for many in the food industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly (but not exclusively) in food processing businesses.

To get an indication of the extent of absenteeism and its impacts, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is seeking input from the food and beverage sector through an anonymous Employee Absenteeism survey for the week of March 29-April 4, 2020. The window to respond has been extended until Friday, April 24 in order to collect a more representative sample and allow completion of the surveys. Follow up surveys will be conducted throughout the pandemic to determine the scale and impact of this issue.
